Ponca Wins State Championship; Cedar Heartbroken!
Tuesday, November 24th, 2009Am huddled in the cold — along with a couple thousand Cedar Catholic and Ponca fans at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln for the Class C-2 State Championship…

It may be small schools…. but they are using the very LARGE screen!

The Cedar kids are excited………

……..and the Ponca kids are ready to play.

Both schools are having trouble moving the ball in the first half……

Cedar Catholic takes over deep in their own territory after holding Ponca out of the end zone near near the end of the first half.

Here is a kid from Crofton………. why the heck is he sitting with the Cedar people?

The first half ended 0-0… after the 3rd quarter, STILL 0-0. It has been a brutal ballgame in the cold. Even this young man got boogered up….

Finally, something to cheer about…

Cedar Catholic scores on about a 50 yard pass play to take the lead 7-0 with 6 minutes left in the game.

This guy from Ponca was confident the Indians would come back…

This Cedar woman was praying they wouldn’t…

Ponca DID score… and this extra point tied it up at 7-7.

The whole town of Ponca was on their feet…… as the game went to overtime.

Ponca scored first in overtime… and took at 14-7 lead.

Cedar Catholic also scored in overtime… but decided to go for the win by going for 2………. and failed.

Ponca is the Class C-2 State Champions…….

….and here is their coach!
